How has technology’s constant presence affected your (or your child’s) education?

That's hard to say, since I stopped going to school in the 80s and the "constant presence" back then was only TV and radio. However, I took a couple of online courses recently through Berklee College and that was a fun and rewarding experience, as I did not need to worry about scheduling time in my day for attending classes and the only obligation was to submit weekly projects for grading. Would love to do more of this kind of thing, whether for music or for art/animation.

How have technology and the Internet changed the way your family spends time together?

We spend time together online! I can sit on my computer and [info]humanpacifier can sit on hers across the room and we can chat on IM all evening! It's great! And when I need to call [info]nemecide down for supper, I don't need to yell up the stairs, I can just send her an email or IM... or even send her a text message on my phone.

How has the Internet evolved to meet your needs since you started using it?

Can't say the Internet has evolved to meet my needs, but rather I have changed the way I use the Internet based on the technology and capabilities that have developed over the past couple of decades. For instance, streaming video was barely feasible 10 years ago and you can stream video to your cellphone now! VoIP was emerging technology 10 years ago and is becoming fairly ubiquitous in many areas (not to mention it provides me with a paycheck!)

I looked back through the previous entries and didn't see anything addressing this topic, so I'm sorry if I'm inadvertently repeating someone else's question.

I'd like to know if anyone knows anything about the Undergrad Museum Conservation major at New Mexico State University. I just got back from a campus visit where I met with the head of the department, and while the program seems sufficiently hands on and in depth, and should give me the training I need to apply to grad school, I'd like to know if anyone else has heard anything about it (good or bad).

I already have a bachelor's degree, but it's in a completely different field. I'm leaning toward the NMSU program because it looks like something I'd be able to finish in two years and a summer, and it won't put me hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt. I'd really prefer not to spend an excess of time and money when I'd rather invest my resources in a good graduate program. But I do want to make sure I'm getting the kind of competitive training that will help me get into grad school once I'm ready to apply.

So, does anyone have any information about NMSU? Or any alternative suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

Current Mood: hopeful

If the world were going to end on December 21, 2012, how would you spend the last of your days on earth and why?

I will just continue to live my life the way I am now. The 2012 scenario is pure baloney anyway...

How have the ways you used the Internet changed over the years? How did you use it ten or fifteen years ago compared to how you use it now?

Hard to say, I've been online since the early 90s... I still use it to check email, web surf, etc. Blogs were ubiquitous back in the 90s so I guess that's one thing that is different. And stuff like Youtube, the technology just wasn't there for supporting streaming video or audio very well. Back in the 90s. except for Linux, software delivery via the Internet wasn't very prevalent and now just about everyone gives you the option of downloading software rather than getting it on CD or DVD. I do like that quite a bit.

Have you ever purchased a lotion, potion, or pill that promised miraculous weight loss, perfect skin, or fantastic sex even though you knew it was (probably) a hoax?
